While the article is correct in the facts on staff shortages in care, it continues the false impression of social care as care in Care Homes is just one part of social care, albeit an essential part. But all care in social care is essential be it in Home Care, Respite, Hospices, Supported Living, etc
So lack of care staff effects all aspects of social care, so it will not be just the elderly affected, but all persons in need of care be they be children or adults.
This is a very serious crisis on top of the also funding crisis, which again is down to the Government, as their promised review of social care is still awaited, having been promised for many years. The Cameron Governments being from 2010-2016 promised this review but decided to delay the review implementation until 1 April 2020, which passed without comment, was this because of COVID-19 or was that just a convenient excuse, if Boris was challenged.
The funding crisis is extremely serious and could if not dealt with see the complete failure and decimation of social care, leaving those in need of care, even more vulnerable than they already are.
So, if multiple actions are not taken social care will cease due to serious lack of funding and people to provide the care.
Should a miracle occur and Boris puts his hand in his pocket and provides the required funding, social care will still fail due to the serious staffing shortage.
So no Christmas Cheer for people in need of care, that is unless support is forthcoming for the petition, Solve the crisis in Social Care,
